The Caves Express evokes the golden age of travel. The Caves Express is your chance to truly escape into another time, when travel was a little slower and vastly more fun. Your heritage train will be hauled by the mighty Philadelphia built Baldwin-Mikado steam locomotive 5917, which entered service on the NSW railways in 1952. Settle back in comfortable heritage seating cars where the windows open for a fresh breeze – allowing you a better connection with the stunning views over the Blue Mountains. An icon of the Blue Mountains, Caves House was designed by NSW Government Architect, Walter Liberty Vernon and built in stages between 1879 and 1926 in the ‘Federation, Arts and Crafts’ style. It is the only remaining guesthouse of its kind in Australia. Atmospheric rooms feature period furnishings with no two rooms quite the same and enjoy dining in the elegant Chisholm’s Restaurant. Bring your favourite book or join fellow travellers for a drink in the bar! You’ll have a full day to tour the caves, including an afternoon tour of the Chifley Cave, relax or explore your natural surroundings. Tour Itinerary

Day 1

Sydney / Jenolan Caves Board the Caves Express at Sydney Terminal, Strathfield, Parramatta or Penrith and enjoy lunch onboard as you travel through the stunning Blue Mountains to Lithgow. Transfer by coach to Jenolan Caves to the heritage listed Caves House set within the Blue Mountains World Heritage area, an icon of the Blue Mountains. The historic house is decorated in a style reminiscent of the late Victorian or early Edwardian eras. Every room is different in shape, size, views, furnishings and colour scheme. Your breakfasts and dinners will be served in the original dining room, Chisholm’s Restaurant. Enjoy dinner in the dining room and stay overnight at Caves House or the adjacent Mountain Lodge.

Day 2

Jenolan Caves Today you have the day to relax and discover some of Australia’s most spectacular caves, which include Lucas, Imperial, Orient, Diamond and Temple of Baal Caves all yours to explore. Included in your fare is an afternoon tour of the stunning Chifley Cave. As part of the historic ambience and a total escape from the outside world, the rooms at Caves House have no televisions or phones so bring your favourite book or join fellow travellers for a drink in the bar! Enjoy dinner in the dining room and stay overnight at Caves House or the adjacent Mountain Lodge.

Day 3

Jenolan Caves / Sydney After breakfast return to Lithgow to join your Heritage train and retrace your journey through the Blue Mountains. Lunch will be served onboard. Heritage carriages throughout your train provide original old world charm. The train will set down at Penrith, Parramatta and Strathfield on its way to Sydney. Mid-afternoon arrival back to the station.
